Who We Are

Locally rooted. Community-centred. Focused on the Black Volta River Basin.

Afrivoices for Climate Change(AFC) is a locally rooted Ghanaian Non-Governmental organization working to advance climate-resilient rural development in communities across the Black Volta Basin.

Since its establishment in 2019, the organization has focused on strengthening the ability of farmers and rural communities to respond to climate change, declining land productivity and ecosystem degradation. AFC works through inclusive partnerships with farmer cooperatives, women and youth groups, traditional authorities, local governments, researchers, technical institutions and development partners.

Its programme approach integrates climate-smart and regenerative agriculture, restoration of degraded landscapes, indigenous crop and tree cultivation, digital agricultural advisory services and inclusive livelihood development. These interventions are designed to strengthen food and livelihood security while improving the health and productive capacity of the landscapes on which rural communities depend.

Afrivoices serves as a bridge between community knowledge, scientific expertise, appropriate technology and development investment. The organization supports communities to identify locally relevant priorities, participate meaningfully in programme design and implementation, and build the capabilities required to sustain results beyond individual projects. Women and young people are central to this approach. AFC seeks to increase their participation, leadership, skills and economic opportunities across agriculture, restoration and emerging green enterprises.

Afrivoices welcomes collaboration with institutions, government agencies, foundations, research organizations, private-sector actors and impact investors seeking trusted local partnerships in climate adaptation, sustainable agriculture, ecosystem restoration and inclusive rural transformation.

Vision

To be a leading regional organisation in building resilient, productive and sustainable communities where people, agriculture and nature prosper together.

Mission

To empower communities to restore degraded ecosystems, transform agriculture through climate-smart and regenerative practices, strengthen youth- and women-led livelihoods, and build inclusive, climate-resilient landscapes for sustainable development.

How We Work

Our work is designed around community priorities, practical evidence and participation. Four principles guide how Afrivoices develops and supports programmes across the Basin.

Community-Led Priorities

We start with local needs, knowledge and aspirations, and involve communities in identifying priorities and shaping programme activities.

Evidence and Appropriate Technology

We connect community knowledge with scientific evidence, climate information and practical technologies suited to local conditions.

Inclusive Participation

We centre the participation of farmers, women and young people, with attention to practical skills, leadership and economic opportunity.

Capability Beyond Projects

We emphasise practical capability and local ownership so that communities are better placed to sustain useful practices beyond individual projects.
